Buying a Funeral Plan for Someone Else

If you’re looking to take out a Prepaid Funeral Plan on behalf of your partner, parent or other family member, you can, as long as the person for whom the Plan is for is aged 50 or over. Whether you have Power of Attorney, or just want to take control of the situation on behalf of a loved one, it makes great practical and financial sense to take care of funeral costs in advance.

I was thinking about it for a while, then I sent for an information pack, which I found very easy to follow. I was able to pick the best plan for me and how I wanted to pay for it. Now I know my family won't have to find the money when the time comes. I even did one for my husband.

Take care of arrangements in advance

Taking care of funeral arrangements in advance at a time when you can think more rationally, can help avoid making wrong decisions when emotions are heightened at the time of bereavement. If it’s possible to discuss the arrangements with your loved one it can help reassure all involved that everything is taken care of. Or even if it’s not possible to discuss arrangements, taking control of the situation in advance can provide great comfort.

Remove the worry of rising funeral costs

There are also financial benefits of paying for funeral costs in advance. Rising funeral costs mean that in only a few short years, average funeral costs could increase from £3,937 in 2016 to £5,217 by 2021*. A Prepaid Funeral Plan from Dignity fixes funeral costs at today’s prices, so however much costs rise in the future, there will be no more to pay for the services included in the Plan.

In good hands

When you take out a Prepaid Funeral Plan from Dignity, the Plan includes the services of a Dignity Nominated Funeral Director, who will be on hand to help you with the funeral arrangements when the time comes. Dignity has a network of over 1,200 owned or approved funeral directors across the UK so you can rest assured that your funeral will be in excellent hands.

You can also take comfort that, regardless of what happens in the future, the money paid for the Plan is protected as it’s held in a totally independent National Funeral Trust Fund, until the Plan is needed. There is a choice of payment options available. You can choose to make a one-off payment, spread the cost over 12 months at no extra cost, or pay over a period of up to 15 years. It’s entirely your choice. For payments over a longer period than 12 months there is an administration fee.

When the time comes, it just takes one phone call to set the Funeral Plan into motion. Your Dignity Nominated Funeral Director will take care of all of the arrangements, providing you with help and guidance every step of the way. They will also help you add any personal touches that you wish. The Funeral Plan also includes a 24 hour bereavement and advice counselling helpline if required.
